i’v been ill for a bit lately; a sort of fluey mucus thing. it seemed like a common cold last week and was immensely frustrating, i had a couple of race entries lined up, two 10s, one on the uber-quick u47. in the end, i did a 22.53 on a seriously undulating worcester course, it hurt and i felt sick afterwards, and had to DNS on the u47.
all the advice is to not ride ‘below the neck’, insofar as if you have symptoms below the neck, then it’s foolhardy to race. i guess that’s where i am right now, able to go to work with ibuprofen, but not really able to cycle. i can feel any form and fitness edging away, it’s really irritating. i think i have a hardriders coming up as well. i may have to just write it all off and get it together again over august. it’s no bad thing. it’s the nature of illness and trying to compete.
there is a mountain time trial of about 8 miles in south wales at the end of the month, i think i may aim for that instead.
