I spent the weekend not cycling and went to see Mercury Rev perform ‘Deserter’s Songs’ at the Roundhouse in London. At times it came close to a sort of pop-culture epiphany. they were spellbinding, Jonathan Donohue waves his arms like a funny bird that never lands, somehow inhabiting and embodying the song. they did a great cover of solsbury hill. (they do good covers) he said some tender things about time slipping inexorably through our hands, and how we may never meet the people we meet again because in the blink of the capricious eye of time everything can change. he says it much better than me.
and i know it ain’t gonna last.
